As an attorney at Halunen Law, Jackie brings a distinct skill set and perspective to her work. Earlier in her career, she worked in private practice on employee class-action and mass tort cases. She then moved to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, where she advanced in her roles and responsibilities and became an Assistant Commissioner. Her leadership in the consumer support, civil, and criminal enforcement division gave her a deep understanding of consumer and employee rights, state and federal regulations, licensing, and more. In representing Halunen Law clients, Jackie now brings to bear her insight and knowledge of business perspectives, compliance, systems, and how “the other side” operates. She is eager to use this experience to benefit employees—work she is passionate about.
A journalism major, Jackie worked as a paralegal after college, which changed her career path. Watching attorneys defend employees in class-action discrimination cases had a profound effect on her. She saw how the law impacted people’s lives. Wanting to play a part in creating systemic change, she pursued a law degree from what is now Mitchell-Hamline School of Law.
Jackie is highly adept at solving complex problems and resolving conflicts, skills that serve her clients well. Having personally experienced sexual harassment as a young adult, she also brings a personal perspective to this work. Clients will find her to be authentic and empathetic, while opposing counsel will find a savvy, steely negotiator.
Jackie’s journalism interests are alive and well. She is an avid reader and writes poetry and short stories. Born and raised in Minnesota, she was an athlete in her younger years and coached her two daughters’ sports teams throughout their school years. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys traveling, live music, and watching sports.
