Urgent! We Need Your Vote to Protect Wildlife Whistleblowers
This is an unprecedented appeal. Your vote will enable the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) to protect whistleblowers who risk their lives to stop wildlife crimes. The NWC has identified seven major wildlife laws (including the Lacey Act and Endangered Species Act, “ESA”) that require payment of rewards to whistleblowers whose information leads to successful enforcement actions. The government has failed to implement these laws for 35 years.
The NWC is not waiting for the government to act. The NWC submitted a proposal for a Secured Internet Wildlife Crime Reporting System to the 2015 Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge. Our proposal received a positive response and made it to round two of the selection process. It is now eligible for voting in the People’s Choice Award. Your vote will make a difference in whether the NWC receives this award! Vote now!
The Wildlife Crime Reporting System addresses wildlife trafficking by creating a system to permit whistleblowers from around the world to safely and anonymously report wildlife crimes to appropriate authorities and ensure that courageous whistleblowers can qualify for monetary rewards.
Voting is open from October 26 to November 16, 2015. Please click here to cast your vote for the NWC’s Secured Internet Wildlife Crime Reporting System.
The 2015 Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge is a prize that will be awarded under a partnership between U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Global Development Lab, National Geographic, Smithsonian Institution, and Traffic: the wildlife trade monitoring network.
